Copy writing is a fascinating subject to me. I love learning how to make marketing work – after all, we can have the greatest product in the world and if we don’t market it with copy writing no-one will get to notice it. And of course, the reverse is true too.

I see your point. But whatever word you use, it’s still manipulation. When I write a letter or ad, I’m attempting to psychologically manipulate my reader to think and do something. I’m just not doing it with evil intent.

Interesting article, however, I don’t think it’s proper to refer to copywriting as a form of ‘manipulation’. I think “convince” or “persuade” would be more appropriate words to use.
